Diamond bank plc, Interswitch, Visa, Microsoft, MTN Nigeria,Nigeria Inter-bank settlement system Plc (NIBSS) and Beat FM all banded to put up TechFest 2018.

As you entered the Landmark event centre, venue for TechFest, a very long queue of eager participants waiting to be accredited so as to gain access into the main auditorium was the first thing you would observe. The atmosphere was charged and you could tell participants couldn’t wait for the event to kickoff  .

While speaking at the event, Dozie, Diamond Bank’s CEO expantiated on the vision of Techfest, Dozie said TechFest is basically to drive technology education to people who are yet to embrace it for lack of understanding of how innovations work. He disclosed that the bank commits significant amount of financial and human resources to spread the knowledge of their digital products to their over 3 million online customers. His words:

“We have about 3 or 4 million people that have opened a bank account on a mobile phone. You have to be educated to do that. Part of opening new products is educating people. The illiterate of the future is not the one that cannot write English or Mathematics, it is one that cannot unlearn what they have learned and relearn. To get on in this new life, what brought you to where you are today is not what is going to take you to where you are going. I have done banking for 20 years but I have done it in a different way. The new way of banking is going to be different. It is going to be done by artificial intelligence and machine learning and so you must be ready to unlearn what you learnt,”

World class facilitators such as Dozie Uzoma, Neku Atawodi, Iyin Aboyeji and more were on hand to do justice to things.

TechFest, with its theme, “spark  your curiosity” certainly lived up to its billing on day 1.
